Komikwerks, the online community website that features web comics and comic content will be expanding in many different directions in the coming months as they gear up to become one of the leading destination sites for comic fans.

Created by Shannon Denton and Patrick Coyle, Komikwerks has structured some unique relationships with high visible partners and will build upon that to increase their presence. “We have partnerships with AOL: Red for content and we also have Stan Lee’s Sunday Comics,” said Coyle, “and we also have done special projects with Joe Kubert’s School and annual events such as the Black History month with strips and interviews featuring Black creators.”

Komikwerks has expanded their core by bringing in new partnerships and partners. Joining Komikwerks will be Rob M.Worley, known for his Comics2Film website, the premiere site for the relationship of comics to film, who will serve as director of Web Development. “Rob brings in a great sense of design and reliability. Implementation of website design is an art in itself and he is a great writer, so it was a no-brainer” said Denton. Also joining Komikwerks will be Gary Reed, formerly of Caliber Comics, who will take on the role of Special Features Editor. “With both Rob and Gary, their expertise gives them certain areas to handle but they’re involved in many other aspects of Komikwerks as well, not just their designated job titles. Steve Horton will continue and expand his role as Online Comic Editor.

“Fans have already undoubtedly noticed a change over the last month,” said Coyle. “There have been a number of new columns appearing on a regular basis, we have rants and interviews coming out with a greater frequency, and some of the online strips have moved to daily releases.” Coyle explained that content areas are the major focus for Komikwerks. “We’re not a news and review site. There are so many sties out there that do such a good job with that there isn’t really a need for us to concentrate in that area. So rather we’ve formed partnerships with Comics2film, etc. to let them provide us with quality comics news.

The online comic section will grow considerably over the next few months as many of the titles published by Caliber Comics and other publishers will begin appearing daily on the site. Starting in February will be comics such as Deadworld, Raven Chronicles, Troy, Seeker, Helsing, and Magus from Caliber. Disciples, a title released by Image, will also make its debut. Fans can also look for new adventures based on these titles in the future.

In addition to the website, Komikwerks will expand into the book world, continuing their release of comics and graphic novels. “We’ve done a few previously in association with iBooks like the current DEAD SAMURAI as well as our own Komikwerks anthologies, but now we’re aggressively expanding those areas,” said Denton. “We signed a deals with different distributors for our book lines.”

Komikwerks will release a number of digital ebooks and have a partnership with a number of comic publishers to include in the library. Publishers include Moonstone, Caliber, Arcana, as well various other professional individuals” Coyle says

However, Komikwerks most ambitious launch will be the line of young adult books under the Actionopolis masthead. “We’ve assembled some of the top writers and artists from the fields of comics, video games, animation, film, TV, and other areas to bring a fully fledged lineup,” said Denton. The official announcement and first releases regarding Actionopolis will be in late February. “We’re trying to structure a release schedule that will give comic stores a chance to participate early before the books hit the bookstore market, and hopefully draw non-comics readers into their stores” explained Denton. “Our first unveiling of the line will be in May at the Book Expo America and many of our creators will be introducing the line at Motor City Con that same month.”
