“Quirks” is a term used to refer to superpowers, and eighty percent of the population has these “Quirks.” If you want to be a superhero, you enroll in the Hero Academy, so that you can be trained and licensed. There are those, however, who have minor Quirks or who do not have powers, but they want to be heroes. They are heroes without legal sanction, and they are called “Vigilantes.” One of these vigilantes is 19-year-old Koichi Haimawari, who has a minor Quirk that allows him to “slide and glide” when he connects his hands and feet to the ground.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 3 (Chapters 12 to 18) introduces new acquaintances for Koichi. First, there is the college student, Makoto Tsukauchi, and she joins Koichi in a study of Vigilantes. But Koichi is a Vigilante, so how does he keep that secret from this smart, sharp young woman.
Direct from the United States of America comes a new thorn in Koichi's side – the American superhero, Captain Celebrity. He even has his own cheer squad, chanting his initials, C.C., over and over again. But this vain fellow has some secrets to hide.
Then, it is a visit from Koichi's mom, Shoko Haimawari, and she sees right through Koichi's half-truths and little white lies. When Koichi is endangered, however, Shoko and her son will have a big secret of their own to reveal slash discover.
[This manga includes two bonus stories, “Hero Conference” and “Hero Visit.”]
THE LOWDOWN: I am a longtime fan of superhero comic books, and I was delighted when my VIZ Media rep started sending me copies the My Hero Academia manga. I find myself even more in love with the spin-off series, the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes manga.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Graphic Novel Volume 3 is a really fun read. That's it for today. This is my short(er) review day. Read this great superhero graphic novel series. Heck, the bonus stories even offer some unexpected fanservice.
