Mr. & Mrs. Smith

John Smith and Jane Smith have been married for five or six years. The pair met in Bogota Columbia during an assignment. John Smith and Jane Smith are both spy and assassins working for competing agencies. Unfortunately, their lives are about to change as they each have 48 hours to kill the other spouse. This comedy featuring Brad Pitt as M. Smith and Angelina Jolie as Ms Smith is mix between 1989's War of the Roses and True Lies.

Initially funny, once the premise of this film is consumed, there isn’t much to hold it together, except the privilege of gawking at the stars. Jolie doesn’t have the screen presence of Pitt. Although a very captivating woman on screen, her reel husband steels the show. The rest of the film is one big fight with one of the most unsatisfying ending. This film has been marketed as a chick movie, but it’s far from being one, or even a very good action movie.

The director and the photographer attempt to include visual references to traditional couples. Ms Smith’s kitchen is the modern stainless steel empire. The characters even fight in a suburban store with aisles for men’s garden goodies and female apparel. Cars are rolling on the highway, big explosions and a couple of special effects. But don’t expect anything out of the ordinary or provocative. This is a suburban parlour at its best.
