Mike
Sokolowski, or Mike “Sock” as some have been known to call him,
has always been a fan of computers. Born and living in Toronto,
Canada, he has always been fascinated by the many incarnations of
technology.
From
a young boy playing on a Commodore 64 to the university hopeful he is
today, computers have always played an important role in his life. As
he grew older his interests and hobbies broadened to include gaming,
photography, and digital media.
Gaming
was the first to manifest itself, and Mike is (unsurprisingly) a PC
gamer first and foremost. From the days of playing Monkey Island and
the endless hours of joy on the original Nintendo Entertainment
System, it was pretty much love at first sight. You might say he has
a soft spot for the classics. Just because Final Fantasy VII was one
of the greatest RPG games and storylines of all time doesn't mean he
still doesn't love Dragon Warrior III for NES. That game started his
love affair with the genre of RPG, and they’ve never gone back
since.
Photography
and digital media have become more important since then. While Mike
originally wanted to be a computer programmer – he made his own
text-based RPG in Visual Basic, complete with random battles and
everything! – he has recently taken a strong interest in
videography and digital editing. That’s when his friend Eli Green
called upon his services for the Comic Book Bin. Years of amateur
photography, tech crew, and filming school performances and musicals
made him the ideal candidate for doing video coverage. And by ‘ideal’
he means ‘available.’
When
not helping Eli with some thrilling video coverage of industry press
events, Mike is hoping to achieve his goals of completing a degree at
Ryerson University for Computer Science, and is also trying to start
up his own website to showcase his music videos and other personal
works.
