In LUBA #8, Gilbert Hernandez displays the kind of attention to detail, depth of subject matter, and density of narrative, both in his writing and his comix illustrations, that not only mark him as a master cartoonist, but also as one of the few novelists who have chosen comics instead of the written word as their medium.
