A platoon of US soldiers in World War II are sent on a holy mission to keep the sword of God from falling into the hands of rebel angels in this miniseries. It is a strange mix of the grittiness of war, the mystery of the supernatural and even some near-religiosity including some genuinely moving scenes at Golgotha. But the story is always entertaining, delivering both bloody shoot-em-ups and magical wonders. The two Peters have created an engaging cast including the American soldiers, both pious and profane and the baddies, corrupted angels in Nazi uniforms who have a convincing sense of grievance and a look of controlled menace. The fight in the arms factory is the highlist of this issue, a great combination of war comics action, superheroic derring-do and a no-holds-barred slugfest. Snejbjerg's art continues to get better, especially his attention to detail and his use of whites and blacks-- very appropriate in a story of heavenly hosts and dark machinations.
