Laugh Riot is an anthology dedicated to nothing else but humour. Yep humour, as if we needed another one of those anthologies where the editors begs a bunch of no name artists - and manages to recruit a few known names to look professional - cough - Dorkin - cough - to put out a book that perhaps less than 500 people will ever read - and that includes each of the creator’s parents and close friends. But is it funny?

Parts of it are funny. It’s the problem with anthologies as some parts are weaker than other, while some just standout. Well, it’s like going to a buffet, except in this buffet you don’t get to pick and choose. They throw down humour down your lap ad force feed it to you. Really, it depends on what one considers funny or not. I could tell you that I found the sperm jokes stupid, but what good will it do to you and the rest of the universe. It’s my own opinion and it counts for that much. So yeah, you’ll find something to laugh about, other things you may not like. Other jokes you won’t get. But try it out yourself.

Now, the serious part of the review, the artwork - because one cannot fool around with artwork. Some of it tries to rip off The Simpsons, but they do a very bad job. Other artists have found their own voice and styles and actually show some merit. That’s the good thing about anthologies like this one, no name artists earn themselves a name and get a track record. After all, everybody was once a no name artist. I say, keep on going guys, humour in comics is sorely lacking these days.
