An alien race comes to the Justice League for help, telling them how a group of aquatic beings have imprisoned their planet in a state of near-suspended animation. But to visit that planet without falling victim to the sleep-like state, the JLA must jury-rig some construction equipment into giant battle armour, each customized to mimic the powers of its driver. This miniseries may or may not be an attempt to sell some toys but that doesn't stop the story and art from attaining a high standard of quality. In fact, the giant robots are not the focus of this tale and are introduced nearly at the end of this issue. What we do get to see are two genuinely alien races and how they interact with the Justice League. None of the JLAers are treated like idiots even though the full nature of the threat remains hidden from all of them. The art makes all the old characters fully recognizable. Superman, Batman and company are not altered to conform to the artist's "style" even though the setting, the alien beings and even the backgrounds are all done in a highly-original manner. The biggest surprise is, that despite the plot, this story is not done in a "manga" style at all. Mr. Moeller deserves praise all around for this effort.
