This "Secret Files" issue reveals the reasons why the Golden Age Superman, the Earth-Prime Superboy and the Earth-3 Luthor went from the heroes of the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS to the villains of INFINITE CRISIS. It is not a pretty story. All the main characters are depicted as whining, scheming, judgemental or generally unlikeable. Old-timers might complain that DC is spitting on the legacy of the original CRISIS except that the original CRISIS counsellor, Marv Wolfman himself is doing the writing chores. While the tale he spins is interesting, it fails to make the reader sympathize with any of the three protagonists so they end up looking like characters with villainous natures from the start, not good men corrupted by suffering. The whole story doesn't really feel all that essential to the INFINITE CRISIS tale since we have already see them acting like baddies over in the main mini-series. The art is consistent, despite the many hands that worked on it. It is adequate but not great. The only problem is that in some panels, Superboy ends up looking like his older counterpart, which is very confusing.
