Just in time for her relaunch as the main hawk in the series, Hawkgirl gets a spotlight issue with her very own rogue villain. The witch that hunts her seems tied to her family heritage and wants to eliminate everyone associated with the Saunders. Meanwhile, Hawkman’s villains are enjoying their break having defeated Hawkman.

The Gray / Palmiotti writes lots of comics these days, and I cringe every time I see their name on a project. This was a filler issue that didn’t make much sense and added another level of complexity to Hawkgirl who is already saddled with a complicated backstory. At the same time, the pair managed to include some zombies - hey - everybody is raving about zombies these days. Of course, that Hawkgirl was literally smashed with a mace just recently and has no apparent scars seems to not bother them.

Sadowski does his best with this issue, but his style just doesn’t fit the zombie type of story we got here. His work is better suited to super heroes. His crazy page layout doesn’t help the story move or feel more interesting. At the end of this issue, one must ask why even pick up this book. It’s a good thing the entire team is being retired.
