This issue gives us a look into the background of Shadow Boxer, one of the Fallen Angel's antagonists. In fact, the casual reader might be fooled into thinking this comic is about Shadow Boxer instead of the so-called "fallen angel" of the title since Boxer actually seems more interesting and sympathetic. On the other hand, it is truly doubtful any casual readers are picking this title up. There is no jumping-on point, no explanation for who these characters are or what they do. Lee, for all her mystery, actually comes off as the least interesting character in this story-- which clearly wasn't the author's intention. The art also falls short, failing to convey a proper sense of mood and leaving Lee looking quite unattractive-- which clearly wasn't the author's intention either. The writer, Peter David may have created a unique setting in this mysterious neighborhood called "Bete Noire" but it is hard to care about what happens there.
