CBB: What have you worked on recently?
Candy Apple Black. Pages 1-3 are drawn by Fred Guimond. George Freeman does pages 4-7. I'm the inker.
Then, I worked on Flirt with my ex-girlfriend. It's an anthology with 50 Canadian and American authors and creators. I was the art director.
I work freelance for other publishers. I'm working on the comic book adaptation of Johnny Dollar, an old radio show from the 50s. I designed him. It ‘s the first time he was given a physical appearance.
CBB: What about Veena?
Veena is both anthology and the main character.
Hervé: What's the origin of Veena?
Visually, she's like girls from bars I went to at the time. She has a mysterious look. In real life, I wouldn't dare talk to her. She's a nosy girl who investigates everything. She's like Nancy Drew, but X-rated. She's surrounded by lots of folks like a university professor with a time travelling machine. Her apartment is haunted by a teenage boy who's also virgin. She tries to find solutions.
CBB: How many years have you worked on her?
Since 1991.
CBB: Did it evolve?
I try to keep it constant. There aren't many stories published. I come back to the character from time to time. It used to be a mini comic. It became a professional looking book in 1999.
CBB: How did the industry feel?
I'm a small publisher. I passed right under their radar.
