This book is the first volume of a series called Lucifer’s Garden of Verses. The theme of this series is the devil. In this story, after having slept for a hundred years, the Devil has but a few days to start Armageddon. To get back in the game, he decides to charm the purest girl on Earth, a woman named Black Lily. However, the charmer may not be the Devil. How can he even outwit this woman of perfection?

So many post modernist take on the Devil’s fight with God have been written in comics, it’s often difficult to make a fair assessment on one series alone. Yet Lance Took has found another angle to write about. Part of his story introduces a new mythology which is intriguing, yet it is unknown if it will reappear in next installments. The story’s ending is unclear. Something happens, but not enough information was provided. That was a major drawback.

Took’s style for this book is creative. His characters are shapes encased within smooth contour lines. Often he tries to assemble an entire panel’s composition within these shapes. Often, he fails. It makes the artwork, which is nice, seem disjointed, as if he did not put enough efforts to find a composition suitable for the total design. I’ll grant him that it’s not an easy task, but perhaps our artist has taken on more than he could handle?
