This the final chapter in a miniseries about a ragtag group of magical heroes, calling themselves the Shadowpact, going up against a deluded Spectre and a manipulative Eclipso. An attempt to ambush the Spectre fails and while the Shadowpact square off against Eclipso, the Spectre heads for the Rock of Eternity for a confrontation with the wizard Shazam. The story has some genuine shocks with a cliffhanger at the end, intended to lead into the whole INFINITE CRISIS storyline. At the same time, none of the events seem to have much weight, possibly because the characters in the story have been largely maginalized in the past. At times, Willingham sounds like he is doing a bad Alan Moore imitation in his attempts to make his tale more awesome and scarey than it really is. Still, the story is a lot of fun with enjoyable fight scenes and some good quips. The art also keeps things jumping although at times, it is clear that the art team is trying to cram too much into a small panel.
