Chaos Campus Sorority Girls vs. Zombies #3 cover image

On the night before the volleyball tournament between sorority partners, Epsilon Alpha Zeta Upsilon (EAZY) and Alpha Zeta Zeta, zombies invade the EAZY sorority house.  Three EAZY girls: Jaime Schaeffer, Paige Patton, and Brittany Miller are separated from their sorority sisters, but the better for them to survive.

In Chaos Campus Sorority Girls vs. Zombies #3 (“The Friendly Neighborhood Grab-E-Mart), the trio seeks refuge in a convenience store.  They aren’t alone, but they sure wish they were.  They’re surrounded by convenience store customers and employees that seem mighty familiar to those who’ve seen the films of Kevin Smith and animation of Mike Judge.  Then, the zombies arrive.

After reading three issues, I can safely say that Chaos Campus Sorority Girls vs. Zombies is no fluke.  Writer, creator, and Approbation Comics publisher Bart A. Thompson has created the kind of comic book that can be a financial windfall for a small press publisher – if that comic book is managed correctly; as a concept, it just works.  Chaos Campus is the funniest take on zombies I’ve ever read.  I also think that this series would be a funny and entertaining even if the monsters weren’t zombies.  Thompson basically has an ear for sparkling, humorous dialogue and has a knack for writing comedy.  My only quibble is that while the art remains good at storytelling, it’s quality is a letdown from previous issues.
