I’m a big fan of Michael Aushenker’s El Gato comics (www.elgatocomics.com), but I had no idea how good a cartoonist he really was until I read his absolutely fabulous collection, CARTOON FLOPHOUSE. Collecting Aushenker’s rarely seen and unpublished work from his early career (1990-95), the magazine size Flophouse is proof that Aushenker is a gag cartoonist extraordinaire.

Aushenker also showcases his dizzying array of cartooning styles, each one just right for its subject matter. This is one of the few comics to capture the inspired silliness and sharpness of Monty Python, as well as having the venerable sketch comedy’s knack of skewering the public at large through fictional characters.

And if that wasn’t enough, Aushenker also includes a suite of Xeth Feinberg’s hilarious PAPU cartoons, previously seen online.
