Rated “T” for “Teen”

In the Clover Kingdom, in the village of Hage, there was a young boy named Asta, who, along with his friend, Yuno, was found abandoned as a small child.  Asta dreams of one day being the “Wizard King,” the greatest mage in the land.  He has one big problem; he can't use magic.  When he is 15-years-old, Asta receives the rare “five-leaf-clover grimoire” (a book of magic), which gives him the power of anti-magic.  Can Asta become the Wizard King without being able to use magic, and can he be worthy of being in the “Magic Knights” squad, “the Black Bulls.”

As Black Clover, Vol. 9 (Chapters 72 to 80; entitled The Strongest Brigade) opens, it seems as if Asta has delivered the final blow to Vetto, from the “Eye of the Midnight Sun,” which has attacked the Clover Kingdom.  However, when the formidable Vetto does not stay down, Yami Sukchiro, captain of the Black Bulls, steps in to show his power.  Plus, Yuno has a reunion with a friend.

THE LOWDOWN:  The Black Clover manga is a really enjoyable shonen magical battle manga.  Its powerful magic battles remind me of the Harry Potter series, so I think some Potter fans will find that this comic can be an occasional Potter substitute.

Black Clover Graphic Novel Volume 9 is intense, although not quite as intense as what was depicted in Vol. 8.  For all the fun fights, creator Yūki Tabata offers two really nice reunions, one of the family variety and the other of the extended family variety.  I like that this series has heart to go with its intense fantasy battle showdowns.

I READS YOU RECOMMENDS:  Fans of everything from Naruto to Harry Potter will definitely want to taste the Shonen Jump series, Black Clover.
