Rated “T+” for “Older Teen”

The outcast students of Class 3-E at Kunugigaoka Junior High are trying to kill their teacher, and they have the perfect excuse.  That teacher is the alien octopus that recently destroyed 70% of the moon.  This alien traveled to Earth, where he became the teacher the students named “Koro Sensei.”  He promises to destroy the Earth after 3-E students graduate.  Thus, it is up to these students to kill their teacher in order to save the world.  They are the “Assassination Classroom.”

As Assassination Classroom, Vol. 13 (Chapters 107 to 115; entitled Time for a Little Career Counseling) opens, the students of Class 3-E and their teacher wrap up their battle with the ultimate assassin, “the Grim Reaper.”  Now, they must deal with the traitor amongst them, their language teacher, Irina Jelavich.  Then, Shiota Nagisa may be forced to leave Class 3-E because of his mother, who proves to a match even for Koro Sensei.

THE LOWDOWN:  The Assassination Classroom manga rarely fails to entertain.  Creator Yusei Matsui's inventive series even attracted a movie production company.  As weird as it can be, I think Assassination Classroom can have broad appeal.

Assassination Classroom Volume 13 is one of those volumes that offer something different.  The story of Shiota Nagisa's mother is so dark and twisted that it almost seems out of place, but Matsui spins it into a lesson for his prized student.  I think shonen and shojo manga have to occasionally show that they can stray from expectations.  Assassination Classroom does, and dear reader, you can join the fun because new readers can jump on just about anywhere in this series.

I READS YOU RECOMMENDS:  Fans of humorous and inventive sci-fi manga will want the Shonen Jump Advanced title, Assassination Classroom.
