Atlantis has been destroyed and Aquaman tries to piece his life together by looking at the remains of those he loved and who changed his life. Several longtime Aquaman supporting characters are dead and the author gives up a glimpse into the times they shared with the hero. Black Manta continues to plot his destruction of Aquaman while in Sub Diego. Will the inevitable showdown come this issue?
This story is good and a great way to introduce Aquaman to new readers by looking at his past. Unfortunately, all this exposition is useless as everything will change very soon. This is the type of story that would have been needed in earlier issues of this series. The one annoying problem is that after months of being told about it, writers continue to say that Tempest’s son is a girl.
I like the mix of Andy Clarke and Leonard Kirk on the artwork. Whereas Kirk’s finishes are never polished enough, Clarke’s storytelling is too weak and not action oriented. Together, working of their respective strength, they weave a perfect book, visually.
