Some day, Johnny Ryan’s commix may very well get him thrown in jail. However, some of us do have a sense of humor, and here’s to hopes that he has an extensive bibliography before the suckas of censorship come a callin.’ In ANGRY YOUTH COMIX VOL. 2 #6, Ryan again announces to a still largely indifferent comic book world that he is fire and brimstone, hell and damnation funny. Not since Peter Bagge blew the rough off the mutha with NEAT STUFF has a cartoonist come out swinging like this. This is hilarity defined.

Ryan’s cartoon art is lowbrow, but subversive comedy in the vein of the bad boy Underground cartoonists. Like the Crumbs, Sheltons, and Wilsons, Ryan is a cartoonist who feels free to draw whatever he pleases. What might appear to be juvenile at first glance is really a gleeful and frank evisceration of sacred cows, cherished institutions, and materialism, by god, I want more. [DRECK, DULL, READABLE, VERY GOOD, EXCELLENT]
