This is the story fans have been waiting for. Fans were wondering what happened with Kaldur – Aqualad and we finally find out in this episode. After Miss Martian retrieved information on the whereabouts of the six Justice Leaguers who disappeared for 16 hours five years ago, the League and Young Justice can finally investigate the secret holdout of the Crolatateans who have been seeking to invade Earth.

What’s cool about this episode? Well, I could be wrong but it’s the first time that we see several Justice Leaguers on a mission with Young Justice. In the past they were either solving problems and fighting mostly as background characters while the kids were at the forefront. In the episode where both teams took out the snow-making flying fortress, they were both working together, but the entire action was elsewhere. Here we see Aquaman working and fighting along with Lagoon Boy. Wonder Girl and Wonder Woman working together. The former was told to stopped being a fan girl and more a wonder girl! And did you catch Diana’s smile after she told that to her sidekick? It’s the first time that we see the whole bat-family in action with Batman leading Nightwing, Batgirl and Robin against the aliens and fighting their way in quite well, given that they don’t have powers.

I really like how the way both team have manoeuvres and game play to deal with opponents. It reminds me of the fight tactics X-Men like Colossus, Wolverine and Nightcrawler developed over the years to work as a team. Well, here, we see the tactics in animated action and it works. The best part of the episode of course, was the confrontation between Kaldur, the former Aqualad and Aquaman. Ok, I’ll spoil it. Kaldur now works for his father Black Manta who was about to be recruited by the Light, the elite villain group that plagued the Leagues in the first season. The Kaldur / Aquaman fight was lame with Aquaman getting hit quickly and almost put out of commission. So far in this series, I’ve found both the Martian Manhunter and Aquama lame in fights. I hope that changes later.

What I’d really like to know is if Black Manta will eventually hurt Aquababy who should be around 4-5 by now as he did in the classic comics. I also want to know if Kaldur or Black Manta will chop off Aquaman's hand. I’m still glad to see Aquaman in this episode. He didn’t make too much of an impression in the first season. There are hints that Black Manta is still the leader of a black separatist and supremacist group but we don’t know for sure.

I like how Captain Atom is the effective leader of the League just like at one time in the comics. He really has the best experience. Green Lantern John Stewart is back and will likely lead the mission in space where the League will be held for a trial thanks to their missing 16 hours. If I have a complaint about this new subplot, it’s that it won’t involve any of the current Young Justice members who, it was clearly shown, will stay behind. I really like the League, but this series is still called Young Justice. Why don’t they spin off a series based on this continuity? The league here has never looked so great.  So far, we still don’t know what happened to KidFlash, although he could have been the Flash seen in the first episode of season two, replacing his uncle Barry Allen. Who knows. He didn’t have a speaking role. We do know that there are changes with Green Lantern Hal Jordan still missing. I hope we’ll see and hints given about some deceased characters like Aquagirl. Apparently she once joined the League and died. She died in Crisis and that’s why she was popular in the first place.

Overall, I really like how this season is shaping up and how I like the newer characters like Bumblebee and Blue Beetle even though they don’t have much personality yet. I will say this Bumblebee so far seems like a complete rip off of Marvel Comics’ Wasp. She’s Atom’s sidekick, like the Wasp was at first with Ant-man. Then, she has the same shrinking powers, wings and power blasts. Huh, how similar to the Wasp can she be? Doesn’t matter. I still like Young Justice a lot and can’t wait for them to compile all of the series in Blu-Ray or DVD so I can watch them over and over again. I’ve been checking often for an announcement of season one’s compilation, but it’s not exactly clear that recent episodes from season one are included.
