At last, the issue that wraps up the story of Wonder Woman's return to man's world after a one-year hiatus. Diana goes up against a host of old baddies and then faces off against Circe and Hercules. Unfortunately, this issue has been delayed for so long, it is difficult to remember the details of the original story arc. It doesn't help that Wonder Woman has to be saved from her arch-foes by the combined forces of the JLA and JSA. Now, that really makes her look incompetent. There is a backup which explains the origins of Wonder Woman and her supporting cast. It is informative but that is about it. They were apparently trying to make this trip down memory lane poignant and affecting but it comes off as just another recap. The art has some great moments, like the scene of Wonder Woman swinging from villain to villain, but at other times, it looks awkward. The Dodsons often make characters' faces look puffy while Gary Frank makes some characters look like they are having a seizure. DC clearly wanted this issue to be a big event but all the delays have taken the momentum out of the story. Now, after all the Amazons Attacking and Wonder twirling, this annual is basically an afterthought. Frankly, it looks like they would have been a lot better off if they just decided for stop waiting for Heinberg to finish his big story arc and let some fill-in team wrap it up. Two stars out of five.
