As
I’ve said before, I struggle to keep the characters straight in this series.
It’s not just a matter of good guy vs. bad guy, or who to root for, because
everyone has varying shades of morality. But when it comes to matters of
espionage or betrayal, I’m not really certain of what I’m seeing. What I saw
this issue is one of the rare characters whom I can recall chapter to chapter
get whacked. But it’s okay; apparently there a new player on the board to fill
his spot.
All
of this happens amidst a technological incursion of the Skywatch satellite, but
unbeknownst to IO, there’s actually TWO incursions – meaning either one could
compromise the other. Or draw the attention of IO for things the other agency
did. Regardless, it all means someone could end up dead for the wrong reason,
whether they deserve it or not.
I
struggle with this book, because it doesn’t read like an ordinary comic book.
I’m not even certain it was written to BE a comic book. The action is so
cinematic in form, it’s like a movie that’s been realized as a comic, and
that’s not good. Despite the similarities in the two forms, they are still
distinctly different, like plays vs. movies.
If
you’ve been bored, waiting for things to happen, this may be the issue for you.
It seems to advance the narrative nicely, with some pay off at one point or
another. But it seems to me a long time coming. Perhaps too long, but your
mileage may vary.
