Slott missed a few pointers in this story. While I like how he showed Pym’s brilliance and Loki’s retort and mischief, the motivation for Thor for helping Loki was off. The motivations for the Avengers to defect en masse at the end of the issue was also badly introduced. Slott missed a few crucial elements to make his story work. First Thor, given what has transpired recently in Asgard and Latveria should be the last one to be helping Loki. As for the Avengers wanting to defect en masse because of Pym’s invitation to Loki was weird. I for one know that Pym was on to something when he made his invitation, but I would expect the other Avengers to understand what he was attempting to accomplish. I did not like the interaction Thor had with Pym at all. It was Thor who consoled Pym at his wife’s funeral. Of all the Avengers, he was the one who understood him the most. To see Thor treat Pym as just a nut job, like all the other Avengers usually do did not help the plot progress much and may have overextended the point the writer is trying to make by rehabilitating Hank Pym. I like the ideas introduced by Slott but his execution leaves a lot to be desired.
This story felt for me like an excuse to see Thor in the book. Thor looked good enough but the inker has to change. It felt like I was reading a comic book from the 1980s inked by John Dixon and Bob Hall.
