This Thursday, any nerd worth his weight in back issues will probably be eagerly awaiting the midnight release of Marvel's The Avengers. While the rest of the world has already benefited from an international release (and it's leak), on May 4th, us North American Marvel-ittes will finally receive vindication for our collection of Marvel Universe Handbooks.

The skies will thunder, the earth will crack open, Stan Lee will cradle us in his arms, Joss Whedon will sing us to sleep, and Jesus will return brandishing a sash that says "Make Mine Marvel." With so many earth-shattering events happening by midnight on May 4th it seems only logical to celebrate such an occasion with a retrospective --- a look back on the past Marvel films that got us to this point. With that, ComicBookBin.com and I (me) proudly present "Avenger's Spotlight!"

The concept is simple: On May 3rd, during the 10 hours leading up to the midnight release of The Avengers, I'm going to review Iron Man (2008)*, Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011), and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). The angle is that I'll be reviewing them in real-time during what my local Regal Cinemas has dubbed "The Marvel Movie Marathon."

Writing from the theater instead of home poses some challenges (thank God for smart phones and free wi-fi), but it'll be worth it to be in a room filled with nerdy anticipation and sweat stains. (Hm...I don't think I thought this through.)

The first flick starts things off at 2:15PM (Eastern Standard). Going in order of release, it's the seminal Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. I'll be providing not just running commentary (on my Twitter) but full-fledged film reviews by the time the film's end credits roll (and so on). It helps that I have seen these films before but I hope to discover and provide new and insightful things on each movie as I go (with tons of poor grammar since I'm an idiot on a time-crunch).

So...remember the date. May 3rd. Starting at 2:15PM and all the way to midnight. Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, and then Marvel's The Avengers. Why? Because as much as we fully-functional man-children hate to admit it, this is what we live for.

*Unfortunately, 2008's Incredible Hulk is not part of the marathon that Regal is running. Anticipating it's absence, I've given the film another look at home and will provide some passing thoughts about it during Iron Man 2, a film I am less enthused to re-watch, making it ideal for a distraction.
