The Vision is back and Storm is joining the Avengers. Will the world accept the new Avengers’ team?

Not much happens this issue. It’s a classic recruitment issue. It’s kind of a cheat since last issue was advertised as being the recruitment issue and it was about anything but that. All we learn is that Tony Stark has been busy rebuilding the Vision who seems less mechanical and cold than before, but it’s not explained how. Neither do we understand Storm’s motivations for joining the Avengers. With Wolverine around and the Beast established as a classic Avenger, they might as well call this series X-Men lite. Storm is a strong character, so it’s good to see here outside of the X-Men universe. We don’t really have a clue about much of the other Avengers that are on the team. Even the characters on the cover are not the full line up. I bet Bendis takes another issue to introduce the new team and do nothing worthwhile with the Avengers. Then, in two months, he’ll break everything again.

Some people told me on Twitter that they don’t like Acuna’s work. I wonder why. It’s not as designed and as distinct as it was on the Freedom Fighter series for DC Comics. He’s tone down a lot to look more like the crime noir work of Steve Epting on Captain America. Acuna’s not really good on action because his work is so stylized. The Avengers are all about action. It will be interesting to see if the toned down stylization works with action scenes.
