If you’re a DC Universe purist, focused on in-continuity stories featuring all the main heroes and villains, you are missing out. Teen Titan Go #18 took me by surprise with its fun commentary on superhero television adaptations, the various incarnations of characters across different entertainment mediums, and the accompanying storylines and tropes with which we’ve grown all too familiar. This issue is worth checking out.

Our tale begins when the Teen Titans are approached by a Hollywood producer about making a television adaptation of their lives. Each member of the team then begins imagining what their ideal TV show would be like, with fun references to the team's recent cartoon shows as well as their appearance in the late 1960s cartoons (in the style of Super Friends)  in which the team was comprised of Wonder Girl, Aqua Lad, Kid Flash, Speedy and Robin. Fictional adaptations are also featured, including a “My Little Pony” rip-off and an over-dramatic show that plays up the teen-angst angle.

Every reimagining is done in a different art style and I need to tip my hat to Marcelo Dichiara for nailing the Super Friends-style art of the late 1960s DC television programming. Sholly Fisch clearly had a fun time writing this issue and readers will have a similar experience giving it a read. If you’ve got an extra slot in your comic shopping cart, grab this book for a good laugh.
