Supergirl’s daddy, the new cyborg Superman, wants to resurrect the Kryptonian city of Argo. That means killing a lot of Earthlings. It’s a good thing his daughter is there to stand up to him. But will that be enough to save the day?

The formula is tried and true and we’ve definitely seen it before. Somehow, there are always more Kryptonians coming out of the woodwork. Supergirl’s father drives a hard bargain, seeking to make good on his threat. Steve Orlando’s script is trite, with a rather maudlin conclusion. It capitalizes on the promise of a premium tale featuring an iconic title character and instead leaves the reader cold. There’s nothing exceptional about this paint-by-numbers issue. Dialogue is flat, the premise is tired. Brian Ching’s artwork, admittedly growing on me, offers a lot of visual variety via dynamic camera angles, evocative character expressions and fun action. The color palette is diverse, and every page flows gracefully into the next.

If you are a die-hard Supergirl completist, you’ll be picking up this issue. If you can live without it, that might just be a super idea.
