Supergirl versus Superman-- to the death. Well, actually this doesn't happen. Yes, the cover does show Supergirl apparently having killed Superman. But the contents of this book show Supergirl apologizing to the various people she offended in recent issues of her title. So what happened here? The fact that the art looks rushed and involved about a dozen different inkers indicates that the story was hastily re-written before the cover could be changed. Perhaps the abrupt departure of writer Joe Kelly from the title threw a monkey wrench into his developing plotline. Perhaps DC realized that in Supergirl, they had created a character who was physically enticing but whose personality came off as unlikeable and even churlish. So they had to do something to make her more palatable. The art does succeed in one important aspect. It makes Supergirl-- and the various female characters she encounters-- look very sexy. The story does try to bring some closure to the emotional wounds that Supergirl left behind but it also leaves the entire, long-winded "Supergirl-must-kill-Superman" plotline up in the air. Will this ever be completed or are we just suppose to forget it and accept Supergirl as she is? Well, with all the loose ends, I will just have to give this issue two out of five stars. Oh by the way, they brought back Pariah in this issue. Is anyone shocked? Or does anyone remember Pariah anymore.
