While the final issue isn’t the slam-bang all-out blowout I’d hoped for, it’s still a satisfying ending to series that I never expected to last as long as it did. I figured the premise had maybe 12 issues before running out of steam, but much to their credit, the creative team made it last three times that long.

In the story, the Nanite King delivers an ultimatum to his/their creator, Velma Dinkley. Essentially, it’s “Join us or die.” But Velma, being a genius, is inclined to search for the third alternative, one provided by Daphne, Shaggy, Scooby and even Fred.

Is it action-packed? Not really, but it is creative and (as an actor might say) there is the element of truth to it, so perhaps that makes it more effective than a spectacle might have been.

Where the issue suffers is in the art. Like the previous issue or two, it comes across as sketchy and unfinished, as if the art team was simply racing to the finish line to complete the story. I can understand the tendency to not bring you’re a game to a project so near to completion (in high school, we called that “senioritis”), but I rely on a higher degree of professionalism. First issue or last, there should be a consistent degree of quality.
