If
you’re a regular reader of Nightwing,
be prepared for disappointment – unless you also happen to be reading the Metal storyline running through a number
of DC comics. However, if you’re a fan of Game
of Thrones, you may find the issue entirely to your liking.
Mr. Freeze
has been freed from Arkham, and has pummeled Gotham City with a blizzard the
like of which not seen since January, 1978. Everything is at a standstill, save
a few members of the Bat Family and a handful of friends and enemies. Under
Nightwing’s leadership, they locate a hidden cache of weapons that literally
give them the edge to defeat Freeze. But it may just be a matter of “out of the
fridge and into the freezer,” as things stumble from bad to worse.
Not having
read prior installments of Metal, I’m
at a loss for the overall narrative. But I do like the artwork. If there are
any fantasy books in DC’s future (Warlord
Rebirth, perhaps), Pelletier and Hennessy would be welcome team for the drawing
board.
As Metal
continues making it’s way through the various titles of the DC Universe, it’s
unknown what the Nightwing title will
be in the months to come. DC loves its mega-event company-wide crossovers, so
regular programming for some titles may be on hold for a while. But to its credit,
DC seems less beholden to continuity concerns. Don’t worry about any
inconsistencies vis-à-vis Green Arrow,
Suicide Squad or Harley Quinn. It’s
only comic books.
