Nightwing
has a problem. He’s trapped in a submarine with a gaggle of the DCU’s nastiest
villains. There is an escape pod, if he can reach it. This secret social club
of super-villainy is set on keeping him from his goal. Some are familiar faces,
and a few I don’t altogether recognize. But any one of those I know would
present a challenge to one of the few super-heroes who has no actual
super-powers.
Unbeknownst
to the former Boy Wonder, his personal life may in for a significant change.
But details on that will (hopefully) be revealed in a future issue. Either way,
Nightwing’s future does not bode well for the future of his “new” home in
Bludhaven. The cops hate him, the criminals hate him, and the general
population can be as fickle as all get out.
Miguel
Mendonca returns to the art chores, and of the artists who have handled the
book since I’ve been reading it, he is one of my favorites. He has clean style
that reminds me of early Adam Hughes. To often these days, artwork comes
over-dressed, but here it’s dressed down and simple. I am uncertain how much
inker Diana Conesa has to do with that, but clearly they make a good team. I
hope they stick around.
The ending
is somewhat clichéd. It’s a common cliffhanger we’ve seen many time before, and
will no doubt see again. But I’m comfortable with that so long as the entire
story does not hinge upon it. Future issues will tell.
