The Avengers want to draw Norman Osborne and his “Dark
Avengers” into a trap so they can reclaim their title and estate to the team
they help found. But Osborne is no dupe and sends something else against the
Avengers. Will the Avengers fall into their own trap?
This should have been an anniversary issue, but it wasn’t.
There was an extra page count, filled with fighting but not much story, except
the one about how this comic book cost me two dollars more than usual. I like
how no one seems to trust Spider-Woman. I too think of the Skrull Queen when I
see her. Maybe Luke Cage is right and she’s about to turn Skrull on us! This
story did explore the inner turmoil of the Avengers. However, there are so many
of them that I’m not sure if it really covered them properly. Perhaps some of
them should move to the other Avengers’ series.
I wasn’t a fan of the artwork this issue. It’s mostly a
group effort that always intrude in the immersion a reader has with such
material. I understand that Marvel Comics wanted to make the series seem
special for each character, but the guest artists aren’t even iconic
illustrators known for their particular renderings of the characters they
tackle, so they lose their relevancy.
