Les Misérables is the story of Jean Valjean, a former convict who changes his life after experiencing goodness from a compassionate priest. Valjean still purchased by the law promises to raise Cossette, an orphan girl. This musical will appeal mainly to religious Christian audiences, thanks to its omnipresent theme of salvation through love and God. Les Misérables is a major film production adapting a musical play which was also based on the original 19th century novel by the French author. The story is woven through 1830s anti-monarchist rebellions in France where Valjean tries to protect his adopted adult Cossette. I enjoyed the film the first time I saw at in the theatre. I was overtaken by the message of love and hope. This is a great movie that makes for an epic movie-watching night for home viewers. Because it is a home edition, it comes with commentaries by the film’s director Tom Hooper. The director reveals a lot of background information on the production which will appeal to hardcore and casual movie viewers. Extra features include more background information on the movie.
