In this issue the entire future Justice League finally unites and stands idly while the surprise villain, Solomon Grundy spills the good on why he attempted to steal Red Tornado’s android body. Can the Justice League stop the new Amazo robot created out of the old Red Tornado’s body before he destroys the latter’s family?
It’s another issue filled with exposition and more internal monologues coupled with old plot situations borrowed from 1970s Marvel Comics. The whole artificial body borrowing type of plot where it gets revived as a new character has been done so many times with the Vision in the Avengers and even other series like Alpha Flight, that its originality wears thin. At most, the villains’ motivations are unique. The ending promises a team fight against the one villain who was designed to defeat all of the Justice League.
Using more traditional grids helps Benes anchors his storytelling better, although it still is difficult to follow the story even when it’s nothing but talking heads. The inking continues to be inappropriate for this series as it only highlights the artist’s weaknesses, and not his strengths.
