The final issue in this miniseries pitting the Silver Age DC heroes against their arch foes. With a cast that includes virtually every DC hero that was around in the 1960s-1970s, you can expect that things would get a little bit crowded. And that is exactly what happens. The result is a comic that is confusing and somewhat disjointed as the characters jump from one place to another with many DC heroes reduced to standing in the background. The main story involves Superman's war of wills with Luthor and his pursuit of Brainiac while Aquaman hunts down Black Manta and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan version) struggles to avoid a nuclear holocaust. Yet out of nowhere, the Joker pops up, playing Dracula and the Legion of Superheroes does a 'cameo'-- all for seemingly no reason at all-- except maybe as a cliffhanger to hint at a possible sequel. The story is entertaining enough but the overly-detailed art style makes it difficult to read and detracts from the enjoyment. Too much of the story is also explained to us in rather melodramatic first-person narration. Perhaps it was inevitable that a miniseries with such a wide scope and such a huge cast would have a muddled ending but the creative team could certainly have made the story more concise in the first place. If they did, they might have come up with a story equal to that other salute to the DC silver-age, "the Nail."
