The Justice League, now clad in special armour, confront the collected supervillains for a knock-down drag-out fight, allowing Green Arrow, Black Canary and Elongated Man to carry out a secret mission that may turn the tide for the heroes. It is an issue brimming with Silver-Age camoes from the Metal Men, the Teen Titans and the Doom Patrol. But despite its huge cast and epic proportions, this issue seems to be lacking in something. Perhaps we have become so jaded with all the massive crossovers and 'major' Crises that this issue's clash of the titans just becomes "superhero slobberknocker number 28." The cramped panels and dark scenery don't help things either as we don't get a sense of the grandeur of the combatants. The heroes' "trick" involving Green Arrow shooting a certain arrow at a certain person, also looks like a retread of an old idea. Still, this issue does retain many of the original elements that made earlier issues of this mini-series so memorable: heroes who are truly heroic, a new way of looking at the villains and a sense of everyone being involved in the grand scheme of things. This may be one of the weakest issues in the mini-series so far, but I'd still give it three out of five stars.
