This issue, the Viltrumite agent sent to shake Invincible continues to kick the hero’s ass. He’s just more experienced and powerful. Invincible, being the most powerful man on Earth still cannot match his opponent’s powers and the destruction continues with no hope left in sight. At the crucial moment, Eve, Invincible’s girlfriend joins the fight but is quickly brushed aside. Will she survive the encounter?

A lot of what Invincible is about is to recapture the innocence of comic book series like Spider-man. Well, like Spider-man, Invincible is going to the Netherlands and is becoming darker by the issue. I’m not complaining. What I will say was that the handling of Eve was too artificial and melodramatic. It’s as if Kirkman is trying to give Invincible a reason to fight and win this fight the next issue. Unless he pulls in a super duper new power, his eventual win will seem staged and expected. I’m not connecting to the emotional impact this series is trying to engineer.

By the panel counts, this issue seems to have a lot going for it. There is actually a lot to view visually. Ottley’s storytelling is impeccable and entertaining. Sure, all his characters are covered with blood, which seems odd in such a clean cut comic book, but at least the gore has a purpose.
