Harley’s happy birthday turns into a massacre, as an elite hit team comes a-knockin’  to deliver some party favors. But the gang we’ve come to know and love is more than a match, partly due to a few other unexpected arrivals. So, two questions weigh heavy on her mind: Who sent them, and what to do about it?

By the end of the story, the who becomes obvious, but the what is a little more vague. Fortunately, she has the help of a misplaced bureaucrat eager to undo the who. And Harley’s eventual answer may be a surprise to everyone – including herself. It’s so crazy it just might work.

It’s good to see the usual team back in harness – Palmiotti, Conner and Timms. As much as I enjoyed the recent Paul Dini flashback, perhaps it’s time to get back to business. After all, Harley’s been around for 25 years now (as noted on the cover), and like many comic book characters, she’s grown a lot. Hence the birthday party in the first place.

Whether Harley will ever genuinely take a place on the side of the angels remains to be seen. She’s a highly marketable anti-hero that has lost her criminal edge. Sure, she may still knock over the occasional bank or two, but it’s all in good fun. No one gets hurt (much), and besides, she really needs the cash. She’s got big plans comin’ up.
