Zombies. A goat boy. A mad-cap super-villainess. Sounds like fodder for the National Enquirer, but no, it’s just Harley Quinn stretching her muscles against an invading horde of mindless monsters bent on brain-eating. (If you think that’s too much alliteration, you should read the book).

Harley Quinn’s insanity knows know bounds, as she opens fire on a hospital, wrangles a zombified horse, and faces down said horde of mindless monsters, aided and abetted by the sideshow acts from her Coney Island freakshow.

It’s fun, but it might be fun-er if it were on film, because some of the gags fall a wee bit flat. But you know what they say: “Dying is easy. Comedy is hard.”

Where the book stumbles on writing is made up for on art. I’m usually skeptical of comics that feature multiple artists, but frankly, I didn’t really notice until the second time around, when I read the credits. Hardin and Timms’ work blends easily, and I LIKE IT! A LOT! I’d like to see more of there work on more comics, but that would only dilute the quality, so let’s not be having that.

Next issue promises more fun, and I’m looking forward to it. The title seems to be building momentum, and I mean that in the best way possible.
