”Twilight
of the Guardians” begins here, with the last two benevolent Guardians of the
Universe counseling John Stewart on his leadership of the Green Lantern Corps.
But John’s respect for the Guardians has waned considerably in the wake of
their collective betrayal of everything the Corps stood for. Sure, they may be
immortals, but they are not gods, and hardly infallible.
But shortly
after their little chat, Ganthet and Sayd are attacked by other-worldly beings
who seem to have a grudge against the Guardians. But who could be that
powerful?
I normally
don’t do spoilers, but DC already did it for me, with a misleading cover of
Hal, and the cover blurb, “Under the knife of the Controllers!” Okay, so the
Controllers are the big bad guys. But how does Hal come under their knife?
Well, I’m not sure, because…
While John
is having his chat with the Guardians, Hal and Kyle are assisting in the
evacuation of the planet Molta, where seismic eruptions have endangered the
population. Y’know, this would have been a great opportunity to tie the two GL
books closer together, given Simon and Jessica’s recent evacuation of another planet for a similar reason. Just sayin’
So it would
appear the wrong cover was used on this issue. Or maybe not, in the case of the
variant, I haven’t seen it. But here’s the thing: not every issue has to have a
variant. If this issue’s regularly scheduled cover was unavailable, go with the
variant for the entire print run. I doubt many fans will cry that loud.
Rating:
5/10 (points off for the cover spoiler)
