After
a year of rebuilding the Green Lantern Corps, and adding the strength of the
Sinestro Corp, that fragile alliance is now at the tipping point. Betrayal,
murder and deception have contaminated the partnership the two groups have
formed.
Many doubted
the sustainability of the peace, but if/when it collapses, the fallout will be
overwhelming for both sides. Hal, John, Soranik and other leaders had so many
hopes and dreams for the future, hanging on the Greens and Yellows continuing
to work together.
It’s been a
great, fun ride to this point, weaving a complex narrative that has built over
the past year. I’m pleased that Ethan Van Sciver was here for this momentus
conclusion, but as I indicated last time, it may be time for fresh blood.
Clearly we have the opportunity for a new beginning. I hope Venditti will
continue to build in terms of narrative and characterization, while offering
other artists – Rafa Sandoval, for instance – the opportunity to put their mark
on the Green Lantern franchise.
My only
regret is the complete disconnect with the Green
Lanterns title featuring Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. The Corps as a whole
was featured in recent issues of that title, but the entire Sinestro Corps
Alliance was ignored, just as Simon and Jessica’s presence on Mogo was ignored
in Hal Jordan.
