If
Hal looks a bit fearful in that image above, he has good reason. He’s
encountered creatures that appear to be immune to his ring. The Green and
Yellow Lanterns are under attack by a foe that even their combined power may
not be able to defeat.
It’s a quick
story that takes place in a matter of minutes (or so it seems) as various
members of the Corps assume the tasks that suit them best – Hal, John, Kyle,
Soranik. Even Guy Gardner and his new buddy Arkillo – both laid up since
their knock-down/drag-out fight a few issues back – enter the fray.
I was
disappointed that Earth’s current Green Lanterns, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz,
were not featured. In their most recent issue, they were transported to Mogo
for a confab with the leaders of the GL Corps. I would expect they are still
there, unless the two titles are produced in a vacuum and have individual
continuities. I would find that disappointing.
Sandoval and
Tarragona have a different rendering technique than other GL artists. Not
better, not worse, just different, and it works as well as anyone else’s. The
most notable difference is how constructs are depicted. They seem actually
drawn – and therefore more three dimensional – than the more ethereal versions
I’ve seen other artists present. Those almost seem like a Photoshop effect than
a drawing.
