The
Darkstars have attacked Mogo, the sentient planet which is the Green Lantern
Corps headquarters. Killowog and the Corps are defending it, but they can only
hold out for so long against insurmountable odds. Meanwhile, four of the six
Terran Lanterns – Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner – are
challenging the Darkstars own base, along with allies Zod, Orion, Hector
Hammond and Arkillo.
Rather than
fight harder, Corps leader John Stewart has chosen to fight smarter. So far,
his strategy against the Darkstars has proven effective, but as much by luck as
by design. But in a situation such as this, luck can carry them only so far.
What they need is a decisive victory that will tip the battle in their favor.
This has
been an epic story so far, thought it has dragged in a few places. I would have
expected the shear scale of it to have a greater effect on the DCU as a whole,
given the space-bound nature of some of its properties – Hawkman, Martian
Manhunter, Starfire, et al. But perhaps that’s like pondering the effect World
War II had on the ants in my grandparents’ front yard. Is Earth too small a
concern to feel the effects of a cosmic conflict?
It is my
hope this current story arc has only another issue or two left in it. As I
said, it’s dragged in a few places, and Other than a great deal of punching and
being punched, I don’t know that it has much steam left. I would hate for its
conclusion to be too long coming.
