I’m reminded of a scene at the end of Rustler’s Rhapsody (1985). Tom Berenger plays Rex O’Herlihan, a wholesome cowboy, the kind who always has a fresh set of clothes despite weeks of wandering the trails of the Old West. He’s pure, and to defeat him, the evil cattle baron (Andy Griffith) hires Bob Barber (Patrick Wayne), an even more wholesome cowboy who out-argues Rex, because he used to be a lawyer.

However, at the final showdown between the two, Barber shoots to kill, rather than disarm (because killing is wrong, kids). “You didn’t shoot the gun from my hand,” groans Rex. “You’re not a good cowboy at all!”

“I’m a lawyer, you idiot!” shouts Barber.

And that’s the purest kind of evil, the kind Simon and Jessica face in the latest issue. Just as Lobo is an interstellar bounty hunter, Singularity Jaine is an interstellar attorney, a scoundrel of the first water. And she’s come to exact her fee from Bolphunga, a recent parolee of the GL Corps’ penal system.

Hopefully without giving away too much, it’s a story of some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you. But rest assured, we will be seeing Jaine again.
