Simon
and Jessica have a problem. Thanks to Volthoom, they are one ring short, and
stranded on a hostile planet in a far corner of the universe that even
Jessica’s ring can’t seem to specify. With the entire planet seemingly wanting
to kill them both, it’s struggle for survival that goes way beyond simple food
and shelter.
The story is
the first chapter in the latest story arc, the title of which I’ll refrain from
sharing. DC had the foresight to save it for the end, otherwise it may have
given away to much. A sound policy I will follow, to avoid unnecessary
spoilers. But for how long this story will last (and why last issue was the
actual first chapter) is something I am unable to answer.
After 25
issues of Sam Humphries writing, it pleases me to see how he has continually
kept Green Lanterns fresh, always heading
in new directions and never – to my recollection – repeating himself. I
come from an era when comic book writers stayed on a book indefinitely, and
Humphries seems inclined to stay as long as DC’s readership will have him.
Of
course, it’s easier for a writer than an artist, but Ronan Cliquet is one of
those who has consistently delivered on this title. It’s required other artists
to do fill in issues, or push through on other story arcs, and that’s okay. It
seems Cliquet is setting the pace for GLs,
and that’s a good thing.
