If
you’re looking for Simon or Jessica, they’re not home right now. This issue
features the secret origin of Volthoom. And Rami, the Guardian. And the
original power rings created at the dawn of the Green Lantern Corps.
I appreciate
it when someone with a sensible vision is given the opportunity to expand on
the lore of a comic book property. It’s not often such addendums add much value
to the back story, but here it seems to fit nicely with the established Green
Lantern lore.
Ronan
Cliquet’s artwork is as dynamic as ever. I think of all the artists involved in
the Green Lantern franchise, his work is my favorite, even over that of Ethan
Van Sciver. There are others who have a lot going for them, but Cliquet
consistently delivers. I know the current model is to feature multiple artists
on a title in order to keep it on schedule, but so long as Cliquet has the
first chair.
My only disappointment
is that the two Green Lantern titles are not so tightly bound to one another.
The impact of one is not felt in the other, and I would like to see a much
greater cohesiveness between the two series.
