After
22 issues, the title finally maxxes out. It’s always been Simon Baz and Jessica
Cruz, but this issue has added John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Killowog and all the
others, tying into the Hal Jordan and the
Green Lantern Corps book.
Last issue
left us as Simon and Jessica were summoned to Mogo, the sentient planet that
serves as the Green Lanterns Corps base of operations. There, Jessica gets her
first taste of the MUCH bigger picture, and the scope of the corps in which she
serves. But the trip is not without peril for the newbie, as another GL comes
to her aid.
It’s
probably obvious that I’ve been waiting for this. Reading both books in the
franchise, it has seemed that they’ve functioned independently for far too long.
Granted, other matters have taken precedence, preventing the Corps from making
direct contact with the GLs of Earth. Still, with the ranks of the Corps
diminished, I would think Stewart would have sounded an all-hands-on-deck alert
much earlier.
I can only
presume the two books will crossover one another, eventually featuring an
intertwined story as Rebirth continues to build toward its eventual conclusion.
I normally am skeptical of such events, but for two titles so closely
intertwined, it seems a natural – much like Superman
and Action Comics or Batman and Nightwing.
