Britt Reid Jr. the son of the Green Hornet is a dilettante without any goals in life. He’s a rich boy frustrated about life. He’s frustrated with his father whom he blames for having abandoned his mother when she was dying of cancer. Meanwhile, the last case of the Green Hornet was years ago after he captured the last crime boss in Century City. Will the Green Hornet return?

This is a set up issue but I wonder if the pace is not too slow for this series. Although I like the rich boy dilettante aspect, it is similar to what had been done in the Green Hornet series written by Chuck Dixon among others and published by Now Comics way back in the early 1990s. I have most volumes of that series. This series, compared to the old one is certainly better written and more engaging. Dixon was a pulp writer and although he used characterization, it was but a vehicle for action. Here, Smith takes the time to build the character of Reid Jr. who we can guess will be the next Green Hornet. However, there is little crime conflict here and putting an image of the new female Kato on the cover when she is not in the comic book is a red herring

Lau is a good artist, but his characters seem too long. I’m also not a big fan of his action scenes. What I do like is the colouring. It’s bright and vibrant. It helps that the various covers are as enticing as the ones from Now Comics.
