The Space Ghost is attempting to free himself and his wards from Metallus who wants to convert them to similar energy creatures. Will the ethereal villain succeed?

Jeff Parker’s signature work is to take older cartoon or comic strip properties and infuse them with relevance for today’s comics. This Space Ghost story is pure enjoyment for readers who seek nothing but adventure. However, do not let Parker’s focus on classic material trick you that he is not living in the 2010s. There is much more diversity to these characters than in the past and although their premises are as simple as in the past, he adds many needed layers making sense of tings young viewers had to imagine for themselves in the when watching Space Ghost and the other Hanna-Barbera cartoons growing up.

Metallus is an old Space Ghost villain that never had as much intricacies or interesting things as he does in this brief adventure. This is great. There is even an origin for Jan and Jayce.

Ariel Olivetti’s work is a stark difference from the Alex Toth-inspired designs for the Space Ghost. Although a painterly style, it is simple enough in details. It feels much like what Steve Rude would paint which means that it is easy to see the progression from Toth to Olivetti. This work would look better in a larger format book. It is a waste that such epic illustration be lost on such a small-sized comic and something very few will ever pay attention to. Perhaps Parker and Olivetti should work on a larger-sized Space Ghost project.
